June Wrap-Up

June Wrap-Up

Another month came, and another month gone. I don’t know how time manages to move so incredibly quickly, but I feel like I take a breath and suddenly I’m at the end of the year. I mean 2017 is half over!! I still feel like we just changed over the calendars from 2016!

Overall, June was a pretty great month for me, I’ve spent most of it relaxing and with friends. But I’ll get into the personal details later, first here’s all the bookish stuff aka the stuff you actually want to read.

1. Frostblood – ????

This book had been on my TBR since the beginning of the year, and since I pulled it from my book jar, I decided to finally give it a go. Luckily I had tons of fun reading it, and I can’t wait for the sequel! Check out my full review here.

2. Mask of Shadows – ??? + 1/2

I got an eARC of this book through Netgalley and while there were several things I didn’t really like about it, I still enjoyed it as a whole. I definitely plan on reading the next book in the duology! Mask of Shadows releases on August 29th from Sourcebooks Fire, read my full review here.

3. Soulmated – ?? + 1/2

I got a copy of this book for review, and although I really wanted to like it, I just didn’t. There’s way too much insta-love for my personal taste, and the plot is nearly non-existent. But there are definitely some redeeming qualities that I enjoyed. Look out for my full review to come soon!

4. We Were Liars – ????

This book was that last-ditch effort to squeeze in one more read before the month ends. We Were Liars had been unread on my shelf for about a year, and with some encouragement from my friend Jordyn @ Jordz the Bibliophile, I decided to read it since it’s so short. As I expected to, I enjoyed this book a lot! The twist at the end is as crazy as people say, and the writing is so fluid and thought-provoking, it really struck me as a form of loose poetry.  I probably won’t post a review for this one cause #lazy, but you can always check out my Goodreads for more of my thoughts!

Around the Interwebs

Not too much to talk about in this category, but I did start taking photos for bookstagram again which I’m excited about! I tried out a new style with some different angles, and I’m hoping the inspiration sticks around for a while. OH!! And just yesterday I got the most insane news of the century – LEIGH FREAKING BARDUGO IS COMING ON HER LANGUAGE OF THORNS TOUR TO A BOOKSTORE LESS THAN 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE!!!! When I opened the email from Fierce Reads I actually FLIPPED out in front of a group of my friends (who aren’t book people, so they thought I was crazy lol). I screamed and hollered and ran around then immediately FaceTimed Jordyn and continued to scream and holler like a nutty person. But I still just can’t believe it! My favorite author on the entire surface of this planet is going to be in a bookstore that I’ve been to probably a dozen times at least. Truthfully this store NEVER gets any YA authors, much less ones as popular as Leigh Bardugo, so this is actually a real dream come true for me!

Non-Bookish Happenings

I spent the majority of the month of June participating in a musical theater workshop! I’ve really been having a blast with my friends there, and becoming closer with everyone while performing songs from little-known musicals like, ehem, Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen *winky face*. This is partly why I haven’t had a huge abundance of time to read and blog, so hopefully after the workshop ends I can knock some serious books off my TBR and catch up on my GR challenge. Aside from all that, I’m not so patiently waiting for scores to come back for the SAT that I took at the beginning of the month, along with my AP scores.

Challenges

Goodreads

This month: 4 books read towards my goal of 40

Total: 17/40 (I’m slowly catching up!!)

Beat-the-Backlist

This month: 1 book read towards my goal of 12 (We Were Liars)

Total: 4/12 (I’m…. sorta failing at this challenge)

Posts

Here’s everything I posted this month! Probably my best yet for blogging!

In total: 2 discussion posts, 3 memes, and 4 reviews! Not a bad mix, if I do say so myself.

And that’s it for this month! Hopefully July will be just as good for the rest of you!

  1. I won Girls Made of Snow and Glass in a giveaway too!!! I’m really excited to read it.

I’m going to try and make it to Leigh’s book tour stop in St. Paul while I’m visiting a friend there. I live in California so a lot of book signings are nearby so I’m privileged enough to be able to go to a couple a year. I’m glad she’s stopping nearby you. It’s such an amazing feeling to know that your favorite author is in reach.

I only ended up reading a couple books in June. My highlight was reading Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore. It was STUNNING (as usual from her). I totally recommend looking into reading it if you like Magical Realism or beautiful storytelling.

    1. Ahh I can’t wait to see what you think of Girls Made of Snow and Glass, I hope you love it! And thanks, that’s awesome you might get to see Leigh as well! I’m so happy she’s traveling to all different parts of the country this time around. I’ve heard about Wild Beauty, the cover is gorgeous! I’m happy to hear you liked the story so much, I’ll definitely have to get a copy when it releases! ❤️

  2. Oooh fingers crossed on SAT and AP scores! My AP and IB scores will be arriving soon (the last ones I’ll ever have to take!) and I’m not looking forward to it, haha.

I’m glad you enjoyed Frostblood and Mask of Shadows, two fantasies that I really liked from this year. 😀 I was interested in Soulmated because woo for Indian rep! But have heard so-so things for the book in general. (Insta-love is fine but hmm I’m still a bit hesitant.) Hope you have a great July!

    1. Ahh I feel you with the test scores, it’s a nerve-racking time of year lol! And I’ll be posting my Soulmated review very soon, so you can see more of my full thoughts on it. The Indian rep was actually one of my favorite parts, so if that intrigues you, you might really enjoy this book! Especially if insta-love doesn’t bother you. I hope you have an awesome month too Aila! ?

    1. Thanks! I’m pretty sure I originally got the idea from someone else’s wrap-up posts, so I definitely wouldn’t blame you if you decided to use it yourself! ?❤️

  3. Ooh, so lucky to have gotten Girls Made of Snow and Glass! It sounds so good; I can’t wait until it comes out! Glad to see that you enjoyed We Were Liars; in thinking of adding it to my TBR if I like Genuine Fraud! ? And, yeah, I hope you get to meet Leigh Bardugo! I got to see her at Bookcon and she is so sweet and so amazing! ❤

    1. Thanks, I hope it turns out to be good!! And I definitely need to add Genuine Fraud to my TBR, I forgot she has a new book coming out! I’m soooo excited to meet Leigh, I’m sure I’ll be bombarding everyone’s feeds with updates and fangirling ?❤️
