Presenting: Pen & Parchment

Alright, here we go. My first ever blog post. I cannot tell you how nervous I am while writing this. So much time and effort has already been invested in creating this blog. But, for that reason, I am beyond excited to finally be putting out some real content!

My name is Mia, and I’m a teenage bibliophile from Florida! Besides books, I’m quite obsessed with animals, Disney, Chick-fil-a, and scented candles. I’ve been a part of the book community for a little over a year, since I first created my bookstagram account. I also have a booklr (bookish Tumblr), Twitter, and Goodreads. Truthfully, I can’t imagine life before I discovered the online world of readers. It’s brought so many amazing people into my life already, and I can’t wait to meet tons more through my adventures in blogging!

If for some crazy reason you actually want to learn more about who I am, I’ve listed a whole bunch of random facts over on my About page. Maybe we have a whole bunch in common and I’m not just a lonely weirdo. But telling you about myself is not what I’m trying to accomplish with this post.

Most likely, you’ve ventured onto this blog to read some cool stuff about books. Well, I’m here to tell you a bit more specifically what I plan to do with my corner of the Internet, and ask you guys what you want to see!

Since I am a teenager, 95% of what I post will be about Young Adult fiction. Within that genre, probably about half of what I read is fantasy, while the other 50% is a variety of genres including contemporary, sci-fi, and historical fiction. That isn’t to say that I will never post about an adult or middle-grade novel, just with less frequency.

Here are the kinds of posts that I already plan on publishing:

  • Book reviews (duh)
  • Monthly wrap-ups/hauls
  • Unboxing posts (whenever I have something to unbox)
  • General reading/life updates
  • Progress on my yearly challenge(s)
  • Book releases that I’m looking forward to
  • Cover reveals
  • Reactions and thoughts on any current events in the publishing world or book community
  • Pretty much anything else I can think of

So now that you have a general idea of what I’m planning to do, hopefully you’re as excited as I am! Starting a blog is something I’ve been wanting to do for ages and it’s so insane to finally see my dream being brought to life. Obviously, as time progresses and I start to figure things out, I’m sure the variety of posts that I create will expand and become more refined.

Now, I have questions for YOU (and please answer them, I really need the help!!!) Beware, there are a lot.

Are there any kinds of posts you would like to see that aren’t on my list? What kinds of posts do you want to see the most of? Do you have any tips for starting up a good book blog? I’d love to hear them! Do you have a book blog yourself? Comment your URL and I’ll definitely check it out and probably follow you too! What are some of your favorite book blogs? Give me ALL your best recommendations! Okay, I’m finally done interrogating you all. Thank you for reading, and here’s to the great adventure ahead!

    1. Yay blogging newbies for the win! ?? I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed blogging so far, I certainly have too! ?

  1. Hi Mia!! Welcome to the blogging community – your blog looks absolutely beautiful, and I’m excited to start seeing some of your content!!
To answer your questions, I personally really love reading discussion posts – while you’re reading books, if there’s any particular topic you want to talk about or bring awareness to or share your opinion on, feel free to write a post doing so! People in the ‘blogosphere’ (hahah) are really open to listening to others’ opinions, and love having conversations and discussions.
I’ve been blogging for about 3 years now, so I can definitely say that my biggest tip is to be really active in the community – reach out and comment on people’s posts, start up conversations, and establish friendships! There are SO many friendly and amazing people in this community, and you’ll really be able to establish yourself + a following while feeling at home.
My personal favorite blogs (and some of my favorite people, hahah!) are Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews, Liam @ Hey Ashers! and Fatima @ NoteablePad (she’s on hiatus atm, hopefully she’ll be back soon!) – they all put out amazing content, and are such wonderful people.
Again, welcome to the community, Mia! I’m excited to see more from your blog, and hope that you’re having a good time so far 🙂

    Best of luck!
