Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday

Hello fellow bookworms! Today I’m very excited to be participating in my first ever Waiting on Wednesday, a weekly blog meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that highlights upcoming book releases!

I don’t plan on trying to do this every week, since I struggle to post anything as it is, but hopefully once or twice a month!

The Cruel Prince coverTitle: The Cruel Prince

Author: Holly Black

Release Date: January 2nd, 2018

Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy

Series: The Folk of Air #1

Synopsis: Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

I have to admit that when this was book was first announced, I didn’t give it hardly any thought. I’ve never actually read a book about faerie before, or a book by Holly Black, so there was little to indicate it would be something I’d enjoy. But then I went to Leigh Bardugo’s signing in September, and she mentioned that The Cruel Prince is one of her favorite books EVER. I obviously needed the book from that second on!

gunslinger girl coverTitle: Gunslinger Girl

Author: Lyndsay Ely

Release Date: January 2nd, 2018

Genre: Young Adult, Western, Dystopia

Series: None/To Be Announced

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Serendipity “Pity” Jones inherited two things from her mother: a pair of six shooters and perfect aim. She’s been offered a life of fame and fortune in Cessation, a glittering city where lawlessness is a way of life. But the price she pays for her freedom may be too great….
In this extraordinary debut from Lyndsay Ely, the West is once again wild after a Second Civil War fractures the U.S. into a broken, dangerous land. Pity’s struggle against the dark and twisted underbelly of a corrupt city will haunt you long after the final bullet is shot.

A YA futuristic Western novel?? I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes when I first read that synopsis, it seems like such an intriguing premise! I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of Western stories, but I’ve never read one in Young Adult literature, so I’m eager to see how this author handles it. Plus, the idea of a second Civil War? I certainly want to see what that’s about!
